Into Eden

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”

1 Corinthians 12:12

this is a project about surrender.

I brought Caleb and Hanna into the studio with this idea of ‘dance’ in mind. I told them that I didn’t have anything planned beyond ‘dance’ in regards to posing because I wanted to create together in the space. We discussed themes of creation: of life and death, of the coming together of man and woman, and of how, despite all else, we are created in the image of God. This project was a journey in of itself as they individually picked songs to improv dance to before coming together at the end. They danced, I watched, and after, I turned their dance into photographs, a mergence of art, creating images that resemble sculptures, crafted by the Father.

SCULPTED

“Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.”

Jeremiah 18:6

EARTH

Sleeping At Last

“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breathe of life, and the man became a living creature.”

Caleb Howard

Genesis 2:7

“Does the clay say to Him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?”

Isaiah 45:9

MY PORTION

Isla Vista

“And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man, he made into a woman and brought her to the man.”

Hanna Fritz

Genesis 2:22

“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

Isaiah 64:8

INTO EDEN

Together, these ‘sculptures’ create Into Eden, a dive into the art of surrender and a communion with the roots of our creation as both men and women. From dust, to clay, to people, we enter back into the garden to see how we are sculpted and crafted individually as children of God, beginning with life and ending with death.

REST

John Mark Pantana

Caleb Howard ~ Hanna Fritz

“On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so He rested from all His work.”

Genesis 2:2

Creation by God was intended. Creation by man is surrendered.

We create because we were created and we are shaping our individual narratives through how we are sculpted.

A special thanks to both Caleb Howard and Hanna Fritz for helping me to bring this project to life. You both have inspired and encouraged me in ways words could never express.
